Liberal Arts Curriculum

All ÿÈÕ´ó¹Ï students are required to complete a minimum of 31 credit hours from their LAC, regardless of major.

The Liberal Arts Curriculum (LAC) provides all undergraduate students with grounding in the liberal arts that is infused with critical and creative inquiry. It also satisfies the six general education areas that all public higher education institutions in the state of Colorado are required to include in their undergraduate degree programs.

 

Written Communication – 6 credits

Mathematics – 3 credits

Arts & Humanities – 6 credits (some courses may also meet the U.S. Multicultural and International Studies requirement)

History – 3 credits (some courses may also meet the U.S. Multicultural and International Studies requirement)

Social & Behavioral Sciences – 3 credits (some courses may also meet the U.S. Multicultural and International Studies requirement)

Additional Arts & Humanities, History, or Social and Behavioral Sciences – 3 credits (some courses may also meet the U.S. Multicultural and International Studies requirement)

Natural & Physical Sciences – 7 credits (minimum one course with lab)

In keeping with ÿÈÕ´ó¹Ï’s commitment to the values of inclusion, equity, and diversity, all ÿÈÕ´ó¹Ï students are required to choose at least one course with a U.S. Multicultural Studies [MS] designation, and at least one course with an International Studies [IS] designation.

About Liberal Arts Course Credit

Understanding LAC Course Credit

Courses in the Liberal Arts Curriculum (LAC) can count toward LAC categories if taken during the approved semester.

Taking transfer courses?

If you’re unsure whether your credits apply to the LAC, reach out to the Office of the Registrar at transfereval@unco.edu.

Have older credits?

Coursework taken more than 10 years ago may be subject to review—check out the University’s policy on previous and transfer credits.
