Biography

Kellie Porter, MS, NIC, Ed:K-12, is an interpreter, mentor, and interpreter educator. She has over 20 years of experience in K-12 settings, as well as community and VRS contexts. Her career began in both general and Deaf Education classrooms, where she progressed from a regular education assistant to a signing classroom assistant before transitioning into professional interpreting. Kellie’s academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in ASL-English Interpretation, with a concentration in educational interpreting and a minor in ASL, from the ÿÈÕ´ó¹Ï (ÿÈÕ´ó¹Ï). She also earned an ASL-English Interpreting Master of Science degree from the University of North Florida (UNF), with a concentration in educational interpreting. Kellie works full-time as an educational interpreter in Virginia, part-time as an interpreter mentor nationwide, and as an educator in the School Interpreter Series at ÿÈÕ´ó¹Ï. Most recently, she developed and facilitates an educational skills development resource under the Preparing School Interpreters Project, an OSEP grant housed at ÿÈÕ´ó¹Ï. Her professional interests include interpreter development, educational access, and supporting both emerging and experienced interpreters in serving Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
